China, Pakistan intend to accelerate establishment of economic corridor, develop Gwadar port

Karachi - Saba:

China and Pakistan announced on, Tuesday, that they had reached a “broad new consensus” on strengthening their strategic relations to accelerate efforts to establish an economic corridor between the two countries and make Gwadar Port a regional connectivity hub.

The two countries said in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Beijing and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang that both sides welcomed the participation of third parties in establishing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in accordance with the agreed model.

According to the statement, the two sides agreed to promote the “high-quality” development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which is a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, develop Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, and improve road and port connectivity.

These plans include the Khunjerab Corridor and the development of the Karakoram Highway, the main land route between China and Pakistan.
