China-Arab Cooperation Forum postponed over regional circumstances – ambassador - The Jordan Times. In my last post I wrote about the CASCF Summit, which was supposed to happen next month:
With the war happening I suspect the guest list wasn’t going to feature some of the heads of state on Beijing’s wish list, and a Chinese acquaintance informed me last month that the summit was being postponed, which was code for cancelled. This has never happened - even in 2020 during the worst of COVID-19 they held the CASCF virtually. Perhaps more than a sign of Arab leaders’ distraction during a regional crisis, this might be a sign of frustration with China’s approach to the war.

My powers of prediction came through two days later, with PRC Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei announcing that the summit has been postponed. The likelihood of getting several heads of state to nail down a new time for a summit is pretty low, and my new prediction is that it will quietly not happen.
The China-Arab Cooperation Forum, originally scheduled for June, has been postponed until further notice due to current regional circumstances in the Middle East, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei announced Sunday.Speaking during a press conference at the Chinese Embassy in Amman, Guo said the decision was taken in light of ongoing regional tensions and the preoccupation of many Arab countries with internal and regional developments.“The current conditions are not yet mature,” the ambassador said, noting that most Arab states are presently focused on their own affairs amid escalating regional instability.Guo stressed that the postponement was unrelated to the recent summit held on Thursday between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing.“There is no connection whatsoever between the postponement and the China-U.S. summit,” he said, adding that the forum’s schedule is determined through joint Arab-Chinese coordination. He noted that selecting a new date may require additional consultations since the original June timeline is no longer feasible.
